About
Hmm.. about me. Well, I’m Emily Robbins and I started out my career with a brief stint in Technical Support, after which I worked in Software Quality Assurance for a few years. I am brilliant at finding those bugs that no one else can, writing test plans, automated testing, etc, but alas the hours and lifestyle required by QA turned out to be far too brutal for both my psyche and my body — and I ended up with RSI (a repetitive strain injury involving both wrists and 2 bulging discs in my c-spine – yikes).
After going on disability for a while I was told I could never go back to working full time on a computer again without taking major regular breaks and not working whenever I had a flare-up — leaving me feeling pretty unhirable in the software industry that I loved (can anyone say depressing?)
Having been a computer geek since I was 12, I ended up flying by the seat of my pants, absolutely determined to make a go of it on my own, continuing to work with my beloved computers but with intentions to never return to the corporate rat race that crippled me in the first place.
As a result, I’ve been a successful self-employed internet seo master, affiliate marketer, keyword guru, domain speculator, etc since 1999 (and a blogger for about 4 years). Talk about a blessing in disguise – without that injury I don’t know that I’d have ever had the guts to quit a well paying job to just wing it on my own, yet I have done far better for myself than I ever could have at my old job whilst having a blast at the same time! They do say everything happens for a reason and I’m sure a strong believer of that!
In addition to this blog about wordpress tips, I also run a blog on How To Blog, which started out as me documenting my own experiences in learning how to blog and then grew into a general blogging guide.
I am currently in the process of moving my How to Blog blog from a TypePad hosted blog to a WordPress powered blog hosted on my own server, so stay tuned for URL updates…
