SpamKarma2 plugin causes comment count to not work in WordPress 2.0

Posted on January 6, 2006. Filed under: plugins, WordPress 2.0 |

I know, I know, akismet is great.  But it doesn’t catch all of the spam, and the SpamKarma2 plugin has been one of my faves for a while now.  I activated it on my test install of WordPress 2.0 and thought everything was working fine — until I started testing things like trackbacks and commenting.  Turns out that no matter how many comments or trackbacks a post had, and no matter what theme I was using on the site (b/c at first I thought the problem was theme related), the comment count constantly read 0 (although comments DID display as they were supposed to).

After doing a little research, I discovered that the culprit was the SpamKarma2 plugin, but even deactivating it didn’t fix the problem.  Nor did deleting it from my plugins folder.  A little more research and I found out that the fix is to:

  1. Deactivate the SpamKarma2 plugin 😦
  2. Write a new comment on a post after SpamKarma2 has been deactivated

Then your comment count should be restored.
